What is a doula?
A doula is a professional specializing in emotional, instructional, physical and practical support for moms who are pregnant, giving birth or who are at home with a new baby. Hundreds of thousands of American women have discovered that the presence of a doula can mean the difference between a wonderful birth experience and a stressful one.

Why would I want a doula?

No matter how different we are, most women welcome as much support as possible when they are having a baby. Our doulas are available during any or all of the three stages of birth: during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, or a combination of all three.

Why would I want a Doula?
A Happier Pregnancy: A doula can help you cope during the anxious period before giving birth. Having a support person with the experience of many labors and deliveries will help you anticipate what will or what can happen. You can then look forward to the birth of your baby with much less trepidation.

An Easier Labor and Delivery: Many mothers find it very reassuring to have a familiar, trusted and knowledgeable person by their side during labor and delivery, especially in a very impersonal hospital environment. A doula will not replace your husband or partner but is part of your team, providing a constant calming presence for both of you. She may give you a massage, suggest position changes, or provide relaxation techniques. Research has shown that having a doula present during birth can reduce the risk of a Cesarean, the need for an epidural, and even shorten the entire labor process!

A Calmer Transition Home:
A doula will care for you during the first few days or weeks after you give birth. She'll assist you with swaddling, bathing, burping instruction, breastfeeding, and ensuring you a peaceful environment to rest and bond with the baby. A doula is also able to provide additional helpful services

Doulas... Don't give birth without one.
